This is the largest Ale bird that Gene made and one of the most successful in our estimation, in how such a large piece made it through the kiln firing without a flaw. Lucy had a very good time rosemaling it, remembering the enormous wooden rosemaled bowl that inspired it. In the summer of 1989 our family visited a small Vinje museum. We were amazed at the size of birch burl that it took to make piece. Our son Sam stepped forward to pick it up before protocol was restored.
