Large Two Horse Head Ale Bowl

$ 199.00

Color

This is a powerful sculptural piece, but is also very fun to use for serving festive tables. It holds ale or mashed potatoes with equal ease. When Gene applied horse head handles to a traditional ale bowl form it came to the attention of an audience who loved contemporary Scandinavian folk art. Marion John Nelson, then director of the Vesterheim, Norwegian-American Museum, chose a Tokheim Carved Ale Bowl to for two international exhibits of Norwegian Folk Art: 1989 Norway in America, and 1995 Norwegian Folk Art, the Migration of a Tradition. This opened the door into a wonderful Tokheim Stoneware design path for both Gene and Lucy, based on the textiles and wood traditions of Scandinavia.

This bowl measures approximately 13" from nose to nose, 6" height, 6 1/2" diameter with cut foot on the bottom which gives it a nice lift from the table.
