One of Tokheim Stoneware's Horse-headed Ale bowls was selected for the University of Minnesota's 1988 traveling exhibit, Circles of Tradition: Folk Arts in Minnesota. We were honored to be part of this ground-breaking presentation that had both scholarly importance and popular appeal. We think that this piece is an excellent example of our early work: Lucy's rosemaled underglaze decoration and chip-carved work on the heads and rim in harmony with Gene's sculptural interpretation of a traditional Norwegian drinking vessel. Willard Moore and Marion J. Nelson's fine essays in the exhibit catalog helped us ground a vision of our contemporary application of traditional Norwegian craft form and pattern. An important experience for Minnesota Folk artists. 7"x13" dated 1988.
