Small Sami-style Kniv

$ 250.00

Color

Gene Tokheim took his first knife making class at the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum in 1986 with Håvard Bergland of Hamar, Norway. He studied Knife making as a special student at what is now the Telemark Folk Art Academy in 1989 and took more classes through the Vesterheim upon return to the US. He was in love with using birch, forged steel and leather to make a beautiful, useful tool. He has been making traditional Norwegian knives ever since, teaching hundreds of others to make them for over 25 years, as a Gold Medal winner at the Vesterheim, the North House Folk School, American Swedish Institute and his beloved Milan Village Art School in our neighborhood. This small knife can be worn as a great necklace although it is also a sharp little tool. The handle is reindeer horn that Gene engraved with a traditional geometric design.
